Colleges and Universities: The Triple Win Scenario

Printer-friendly versionSend to friendPDF version

Colleges and Universities (even HS systems) benefit from our equipment for 3 reasons:

  1. Most colleges are in the business of feeding not only the minds, but the stomachs of many young people. Cooking oils that are reclaimed from the kitchens and restaurants of any institution can be converted into ASTM-grade biodiesel for less than 90 cents per gallon in our machines. At 75% capacity, our machines achieve ROI in approx. 9-10 months (And we're confident that rate of return will speed up over time, as the price of regular diesel rises)
  2. Many colleges have set mandates to significantly reduce their carbon footprints over time. You could start today with biodiesel. According to the EPA, biodiesel burns 78% cleaner than regular diesel.
  3. Our equipment is currently being used by 45 different colleges and universities around the country. Most of these institutions incorporate the equipment into their curriculums. Classes in ecology, environmental studies and agriculture can teach students the process of making an alternative fuel that works in any diesel engine without the need to convert that engine.
How much co2 can we eliminate?

  • Louisiana State University (one of 42 school systems in the US currently operating a BioPro™) uses a BioPro™190 in its Agricultural Research facility. Training in biodiesel production is offered to students and teachers as well as farmers and interested members of the community; LSU produces biodiesel for research purposes. They also actively research alternative feedstock sources.

Our processors are the industry leader in small scale, fully automated biodiesel processors.

  • They are made from 304 Stainless steel.
  • They are made with all industrial-grade components.
  • They are CE certified.
  • They consistently and reliably make ASTM-grade biodiesel.
  • They are designed with safety in mind.
  • They are extremely easy to use.
  • Don't take our word for it. Contact us and we will send you references.

THE BENEFITS OF USING BIODIESEL are many.

  1. If you make Biodiesel using our equipment, you can make it for approx. 90 cents a gallon.
  2. According to the EPA, biodiesel burns 78% cleaner than regular diesel. (ie. it’s “emissions profile” is significantly better than using diesel).
  3. Biodiesel can be made from ANY vegetable or animal oil.
  4. Biodiesel will run in ANY diesel engine without the need to convert your engine.
  5. Biodiesel is better for the life of your engines. It has a higher lubricity rate than regular diesel and therefore will create less wear in your engine.
  6. Biodiesel will mix, at any ratio, with diesel, so it can be blended and used in conjunction with diesel.
  7. Biodiesel can and is being made right now, on US soil, thereby reducing our dependence on foreign oil.
  8. Our equipment is made entirely in the USA.
  9. Converting a waste stream in to a beneficent alternative fuel that runs in any diesel engine is a significant process improvement for any company, individual or college.

USAGE CASE SCENARIO:

With the 50% tax credit, the federal government is incenting institutions and small businesses to make an environmentally beneficial purchase, economically more attractive. ( http://www.afdc.energy.gov/afdc/fuels/biodiesel_laws.html ) Disregarding these incentives, here is a very basic "usage case" scenario:

If you assume the following:
  1. Diesel is on average $3.00/gallon throughout the next 12 months (currently at $3.19/gal in Chico, CA.)
  2. Your input costs are $0.90/gallon (methanol, lye, sulfuric acid, electricity and water).
  3. You get your grease for free.

Then you have a built in $2.10/gallon "savings" over diesel.

If you use your BioPro 190 at 67% of full capacity, you will produce approximately 6,000 gallons of biodiesel per year. You will "save" 6,000 x $2.10 or $12,600.00 in the first 12 months. This is before any savings that might accrue to your college due to tax savings.

6,000 gallons of Biodiesel will reduce GHG emissions by approx. 78,000 pounds of CO2.
