Ingredients
Methanol
Usually can be purchased locally from a couple of sources. It is carried by most fuel distributors and they will generally sell by the drum. They may charge a deposit for the drum. It is also carried by auto racing shops many dragsters run on methanol. The price of methanol may vary widely, so if you encounter a very high price(anything over 6.50$ per gallon), it may be worthwhile to search a bit more. Generally the cost will run between about $3.75/gallon on the low end, all the way up to over $6.00/gallon on the high end.
Sodium or Potassium HydroxideThe BioPro processor are capable of employing either sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide as the base catalyst, both of which may typically be purchased from a local chemical distributor. In addition, pre-packaged doses, sized specifically for the BioPro processors, can be purchased from Utah Biodiesel Supply at http://www.utahbiodieselsupply.com/chemicals.php. It is cheaper to buy these in bulk, but the pre-packaged doses are very convenient. This same website also carries bulk quantities of sodium and potassium hydroxide. The bulk prices on this site are good, but the shipping is not cheap, so it is more economical if the hydroxide can be sourced locally. |

Sulfuric AcidThe sulfuric acid used by the BioPro processors must be of high purity, greater than 93%.This grade is often known as 66 BE. acid, typically only 50% pure sulfuric acid, so it is not suitable. Some drain openers are composed of sulfuric acid of sufficient purity, but many of these may change their formulas from time to time, or include diluting agents. Therefore, we cannot recommend any specific brands of drain openers as suitable. It is also available in bulk through local chemical distributors or through Utah Biodiesel Supply website listed above. |
